Recreational Coaching Course

Course Information

Coaching Level 1

Aim: This award course aims to provide training and assessment to individuals who have the passion to facilitate, organise, deliver training and perform assessment for students pursuing the personal 1 Star Award.
Course Duration: 24 hours
Requirements:
  • 2 Star Award
  • Swimming 50m without PFD
  • At least 18 years and above

Coaching Level 2

Aim: This award course is for those who wish to facilitate, organise and deliver training and assessment for 2 Star Award.
Course Duration: 24 hours
Requirements:
  • Attained 3 Star Award and Level 1 Coaching Award
  • Log a minimum of 12 hours of coaching experience within the last 2 years

Coaching Level 3

Aim: This award course is for those who wish to facilitate, organise and deliver training and assessment for 3 Star Award and to train and assess Level 1 and Level 2 Coaches.
Course Duration: 24 hours
Requirements:
  • Attained 4 Star Award either “River” or “Sea and Open Water”
  • Attained Level 2 Coaching Award for at least 2 years
  • Log a minimum of 18 hours of 2 Star Award coaching experience within the last 2 years

Coaching Level 4

Aim:
This award is for those who wish to facilitate, organise and deliver training and assessment for 4 Star Award:
  • River, or
  • Sea and Open Water
And to train and assess Level 1, 2 and 3 Coaches. It is assumed that such candidates will be generally knowledgeable of more than one aspect of paddle sport.
Course Duration: 5 full days
Requirements:
  • Attained 5 Star Award either “River” or “Sea and Open Water”
  • Attained Level 3 Coaching Award
  • Hold a recognised current First-Aid certification

Coaching Level 5

Aim:
This award is for those who wish to facilitate, organise and deliver training and assessment for 5 Star Award:
  • River, or
  • Sea and Open Water
And to train and assess coaches at all levels up to and including Level 4 Coach. It is assumed that candidates presenting themselves for this level of award will have wide knowledge of many aspects of paddle sport. They should be highly skilled in more than one discipline/craft or paddling environment, and will be recognised as an “ambassador” for the sport, capable of running high quality courses at all levels.
Course Duration: 3 full days
Requirements:
  • Attained Level 4 Coaching Award for at least 3 years
  • Hold a 4 Star Award in both “River” and “Sea and Open Water
  • Hold a recognised current First-Aid certification
  • Produce evidence of significant involvement as a competitor in an ICF discipline.
  • Produce evidence of having organised or assisted in the following minimum number of coaching courses:
    • Five 4 Star Award courses
    • Four Level 3 Coach Training Courses
