JOB POSTING: National Development Kayaking Coach (Canoe Sprint)




Singapore Canoe Federation (SCF), the national governing body responsible for canoe and kayak racing in Singapore, is seeking a development coach for the National Canoe Sprint – Kayak (CSP-K) Team. The development coach will work under the direction of the National Kayak Coach (Senior Team) and the High Performance Committee to assist with coaching, planning, and monitoring of the national development team.

Main Responsibilities

  • Designing and managing a program which identifies and develops U18 athletes with the potential to compete at the elite international age group level
  • Providing pre-race and post-race feedback to the National Kayak Coach (Senior Team), development athletes, and the High Performance Committee
  • Supervision of National Development Team athletes participating in international championships and overseas competitions
  • Encourage the positive development of the athlete’s leadership and character qualities
  • Providing regular technical feedback and advice to the National Development Team
  • Be able to participate in all team activities and meetings when required
  • Assisting in the selection process of development athletes for entry into the National Development Team
  • To maintain close working relationships with the Singapore Sport Institute (SSI) and Sport Singapore (Sport SG) to contribute to the High Performance Programme and the creation of a pool of knowledge and practice for the benefit of Canoe Sprint in Singapore.
  • Remain up-to-date with new technical developments and advise on implementation of training and competition program
  • Liaising and maintaining good rapport with the parents , as well school staff and the coaches of the development athletes
  • Conduct regular coach education seminars, workshops, and sharing sessions for school coaches


  • Must be physically fit
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Possess a sound understanding of growth & development among young athletes and able to develop training and competition programmes that cater to their long-term needs
  • Able to work well with young athletes (U18)
  • Familiarity with the Singapore educational system, as well as experiences coaching Singapore canoeing schools is a bonus
  • Demonstrate personal integrity, honesty, respect, and show an ability to handle pressure and stress in an appropriate manner
  • Highly motivated and passionate about the sport
  • Must be able to form effective working relationships with the National Kayak Coach (Senior Team), the athletes, and the Federation
  • Able to write and speak well in English
  • Previous experience competing at or coaching at World Championships, Junior World Championships, and/or World Cups is a bonus
  • Good organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Willingness to assist the team and the Federation as needed and when required


The coach will be paid a monthly wage that will commensurate with experience and qualifications.
