What is Canoe Slalom?

Canoe Slalom is an exhilarating water sport where athletes race kayaks or canoes through a series of hanging gates on a set course. It’s all about speed and precision — weaving in and out of obstacles as quickly as possible without touching or missing any gates. Each touch adds a 2-second penalty, and missing a gate or taking it incorrectly adds a hefty 50 seconds, so accuracy matters just as much as speed.

Originally inspired by ski slalom, this sport is now featured at the Olympic Games and Asian Games, and will make its debut at the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand this December 2025.

Whether on flatwater or fast moving whitewater rivers, Canoe Slalom offers a unique thrill.

2025 Singapore National Canoe Slalom Championship

Canoe Slalom in Singapore

Canoe slalom in Singapore is safe, exciting, and easy to start. With no natural rivers here, all training and competitions take place in calm flatwater conditions — perfect for beginners to learn in a safe, controlled & welcoming environment.

Athletes start by building strong technical skills locally before taking on the thrill of whitewater at international competitions. This step-by-step pathway not only ensures safety but also provides the opportunity to grow steadily, gain confidence, and ultimately compete alongside the world’s best and learn from them.
