Canoe Slalom is an obstacle race in kayaks or canoes. The term slalom is to zig-zag between obstacles. This game was derived as an adaptation from ski slalom. The game of canoe slalom may be held on flat water, although for major games it is held in whitewater. An Olympic sport and Asian Games event, Canoe Slalom will debut in the 33rd South-East Asia Games in December 2025, hosted by Thailand. Dodge, weave, bob and swing around gates (poles suspended over the water) at the fastest time without touching or missing them in the set order “design”. Penalties of 2 second for a touch and 50 seconds for a miss or wrong direction will be added to the final time so accuracy is paramount! Canoe Slalom in Singapore
The first recognized canoeing competition was held in 1869 and it was organized by John MacGregor, the founder of the British Royal Canoe Club (RCC). Its popularity started to grow in Europe and America and soon trans-Atlantic competition commenced with the founding of the New York Canoe Club. The first women’s competition was also organized in Russia, and by the 1890s, canoe sport was very popular and had a large following in Europe. The next milestone for the sport was its inclusion as an Olympic discipline and it debuted at the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games.
